Rabbits. The Squirrels of PA.

I found this bunny stuck down in one of my basement windows thanks to Bear. Bear and I like to walk around my yard and since Bear is a Terrier, he is very attuned to small vermin (smells and sounds). He checks every hole, bush, and downspout. So when I saw Bear run up to the basement window and stick his head down the hole, I knew something was in there. Under the leaves I found this guy. I had to pick up this little guy since I was pretty sure it could not jump the 3 FT to get out. Although I was extremely tempted to keep it since he/she was so cute, it is wild and should stay that way. Good luck little bunny and watch out for cars and predators!

All Hail..... Hail.

I was privy to some pretty incredible weather this evening. Today was unseasonably warm and muggy. Some bad weather was predicted for this afternoon with a cold front moving in. They predicted mostly thunderstorms, but as I was watching Tiger Woods in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, an eerie beeping started coming through the TV…. Severe Storm Warning for Eastern PA! Then I see my county pop up. Uh-oh. tornado warning? Is it going to be that bad? Well I did watch the TV show Storm Chasers last year (great show by the way) so I’ve learned a few of the tell tale signs of supercells, mesocyclones, updrafts, and so on. Well, I was a bit nervous when I heard hail starting to fall…Hail is created in times of severe updrafts, one of the main ingredients for tornadic activity. The hail started off fairly tame. Small pea shaped stones, but as the wind picked up, the hail started coming in at an angle and got increasing larger. It started to sound as if someone was shooting my house with birdshot. Then it sounded like large rocks. My house has aluminum siding so the sound is a bit amplified on the inside. I went out into my garage to get some video and this is what I saw and heard… *turn your volume up because it starts getting really loud towards the end, like someone shooting a 9MM*

Pretty wild. I have been in hailstorms before, but never for this long and never this large. The hail was about the size of a half dollar and it lasted for a good 5-10 minutes before it finally turned to rain. I took a walk around the house after the storm and luckily nothing was broken or damaged. I wonder if everyone else was so lucky?

Vices...

Been awhile since my last post and for good reason. I've been smack dab in the middle of the Winter doldrums. Not much going on... but it seems the weather has slightly improved here in Eastern PA and Spring feels right around the corner. Last Saturday it was in the low's 70's and I actually got to run outside at the park instead of on that "GD" treadmill! The workout regime has been going well. I am getting my strength back from lifting and the cardio is paying off. I still am tempted though. I have seasonal vices. In the summer I am a sucker for Frappes. I am from New England so I call them Frappes, not MILKSHAKES. I love those. As the Fall rolls around, it is Halloween candy. Then you have the gorging of food on Thanksgiving and Christmas. January/February the Easter candy starts to appear (my favorite candy period) even though Easter is several months away. I have no break. No natural lull in temptation. I should be buying stock in Cadbury right now.
